About me
My name is Jahaziel Marrero, and I’m the founder of Anima Psychiatry.
My journey into mental health began years ago when I watched someone close to me struggle silently with trauma and untreated mental health challenges. That experience changed the direction of my life and sparked the passion that brought me into this field.
Before becoming a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I spent over six years working as a firefighter and paramedic. Being on the front lines taught me a great deal about resilience, crisis, and the human spirit, but it also showed me how many people go without the support they desperately need. That realization pushed me to pursue nursing and eventually advanced training in psychiatry, culminating in the completion of my Doctorate.

My Professional Background
Throughout my career, I have worked in emergency settings, outpatient psychiatry, inpatient psychiatric units, crisis stabilization programs, and alongside law enforcement teams specializing in crisis intervention. These diverse experiences shaped how I practice today: attentive, collaborative, trauma-informed, and driven by genuine human connection.

Why I Started Anima Psychiatry
Anima means soul. It serves as a reminder that behind every diagnosis is a person with their own story, strengths, and future worth investing in. I created this practice to offer mental health care that feels personal, accessible, and grounded equally in science and humanity.
Although most services are currently offered through telehealth, my long-term goal is to expand the practice with additional providers who share the same vision and commitment to patient-centered, high-quality mental health care. As Anima Psychiatry grows, the mission remains the same: to deliver care that is compassionate, individualized, and genuinely supportive.

My Approach
I provide comprehensive psychiatric care that includes medication management, diagnostic evaluations, and therapy. My approach blends evidence-based practices with therapeutic conversation, lifestyle guidance, and a holistic mindset. My background working with first responders, high-stress professions, and diverse communities allows me to tailor care for people who often feel misunderstood or who are used to being the ones helping everyone else.

What to Expect
My website and my work are built around one purpose:
To help you feel better, function better, and live with more clarity. Whether you are seeking support for the first time or restarting your mental health journey, you deserve care that is respectful, honest, and effective.

Welcome to Anima Psychiatry. Your story matters, and I am here to help you write the next chapter.
